Mayor Brown and Small Business Owners Unveil Marketing Videos

BUFFALO– As part of his continued commitment to celebrate and promote the diverse and independent small businesses that enrich neighborhoods Citywide and create jobs, Mayor Byron W. Brown and University District Council Member Rasheed N.C. Wyatt, joined by Small Business Owners and representatives from Invest Buffalo Niagara, Visit Buffalo Niagara and The Buffalo Niagara Partnership, celebrated National Economic Development Week by releasing a series of short videos that promote Buffalo as a great place to invest and operate a business. Spearheaded by Mayor Brown, the videos feature a number of small business owners in Buffalo.

“Small businesses are the backbone of our neighborhoods, and today we’re here to mark Economic Development Week in Buffalo by supporting the vital role of small business in Buffalo that create jobs, advance career development opportunities and increase the quality of life in our community,” said Mayor Brown. “As part of my continued commitment to celebrate and promote the diverse and independent small businesses that enrich neighborhoods Citywide, I’m pleased to unveil new marketing videos that showcase Buffalo as a great place to invest and operate a business. I thank Invest Buffalo Niagara for working in partnership with us on this strategic initiative which markets Buffalo as a great place for minority entrepreneurs to start and grow a business, and also promotes our City as a great startup City with an enthusiastic entrepreneurial spirit.”

The videos will be used to court businesses, workers and future residents…and be promoted, at least to start, on-line and on social media platforms.

Since 2006, Mayor Brown has worked hard to support and grow Buffalo’s business climate, which is stronger than it’s been in decades. He reduced the commercial tax rate by almost 32% and reduced the residential property tax rate by nearly 16%, made significant investments in education and youth employment so businesses have an educated workforce, continues to invest in public safety initiatives and programs that have resulted in a 35% drop in crime since 2005, and has provided major funding on a number of quality of life initiatives, including parks improvements and infrastructure upgrades, making it easier for small businesses to attract and recruit new employees.
As part of today’s event, Mayor Brown also declared May 8-13 as Economic Development Week in Buffalo. To show support, Mayor Brown encouraged City residents to shop local, and ‘like’ the new marketing videos on his Facebook Page.
