The District Inspections Office within the Department of Permit & Inspection Services is responsible for the following inspection types:
- Building Permits
- Citizen Service Complaints
- Business Licenses
- Neighborhood Patrol
District inspectors are assigned by census tracts based on population. These tracts may overlap several councilmatic districts, but are grouped in the same geographic area(s). Some census tract areas may be larger than others due to the vacant or undeveloped tracts of land within. It is important to know who the inspector assigned to your area is, and to have his or her appropriate phone number.
You can contact our general number (716) 851-4900 for this information.
Common complaints received by our department are:
- Tall grass and weeds
- Snow removal
- garbage / debris accumulation
We must remind property owners that the failure to maintain grass, snow and debris may result in a ticket being issued.
As of 2017, our department will now also be issuing tickets for chipping and peeling paint.
Our department’s overall goal is to work with residents, block clubs and community organizations to resolve neighborhood housing and zoning problems throughout the city of Buffalo.
