Description

Description |
The column that forms this monument is topped by a female figure said
to represent the City of Buffalo (also known as the Queen City of the
Great Lakes). The bronze band relief encircling the column depicts
civilians answering the call to arms and Lincoln announcing his
emancipation proclamation, flanked by a drummer boy, a cabinet
officer, and a military officer. There is a bronze emblem with an
eagle, flags, and a cannon located above the bronze band. On four
pedestals projecting from the base of the column stand four life-size
figures representing infantry, cavalry, artillery and navy. Each of
the figure's pedestals have a bronze relief of an eagle and a shield.
