Description |
Plaque contains image-in-relief of a soldier with partial skeleton
reveal surrounded by a divine figure, trees, human skulls, and
skeletal hands. Inscription on plaque reads: "In memory of the 15,000
Polish soldiers massacred at Katyn Forest, 1940-1980. Polish-American
Citizens Org. and Polonia Buffalo." Inscription on smaller
commemorative plaque reads: "This plaque was presented to the people
of the City of Buffalo by the Polish-American Citizens Organization in
memory of their fellow brothers -prisoners of war - Massacred by
Soviet Russia at Katyn Forest in the Spring of 1940. Mayor James D.
Griffin was assisted in the unveiling of this plaque on April 27, 1980
by family members of those polish officers murdered at Katyn."
