Mayor Brown Proclaims Small Business Week

Highlights the important role small businesses play in growing local economy

May 15, 2015 – Today, Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown proclaimed May 11-15 as Small Business Week in the City of Buffalo stating, “Small businesses are the backbone of our economy that transform communities, create jobs and enables countless people to realize their entrepreneurial dreams.”
Small Business Week 2015 celebrations kicked off earlier this week in the city with activities at the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center in downtown.  The annual event is hosted by the U.S. Small Business Administration and SCORE Buffalo Niagara and is designed to recognize and honor local small businesses and local entrepreneurs.
“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our city, and we salute small business owners, entrepreneurs, and employees for enhancing our communities and expanding opportunities for all,” said SBA’s Buffalo District Director Franklin J. Sciortino. “The hard work and ingenuity of our small business men and women are helping to sustain America’s economic strength. Small Business Week recognizes and celebrates outstanding small business owners for their contributions to our economy and for their entrepreneurial spirit.”

During Small Business Week, more than 55 outstanding small business owners from around Western New York were honored at award events, held May 11 and May 13 that focused on the achievements top entrepreneurs.  The two events recognized and honored small business accomplishments, including recovery, federal contract procurement and entrepreneurial success.

The mayor’s proclamation goes on to say “Small businesses are critical to our economic recovery and the strengthening of our economy.  Entrepreneurs here and across the county are contributing by building America’s future and helping the United States compete in today’s global marketplace.  For over 50 years, the SBA has continued its tradition of honoring the nation’s 28 million small businesses nationwide and in the City of Buffalo. I encourage my fellow citizens to recognize the accomplishments of small business owners and support the development of new small businesses in the community.”
