110 New Bicycle Racks

Mayor Brown, City of Buffalo Support Local Businesses with 110 New Bicycle Racks

May 7, 2015 – Outside the Saint Vincent de Paul Society of Buffalo (1298 Main Street), Mayor Byron Brown today unveiled Buffalo’s latest installation of bicycle racks, part of Buffalo’s continued commitment to become an even more bicycle friendly city by providing bicycle parking for city businesses and its patrons. Local company Quackenbush Co. partnered with GObike Buffalo and local welder Sarah Fonzi to fabricate and install 110 bicycle racks in business districts throughout the entire city.

“As our city continues to transform, with over $5 billion in new economic development activity underway, we continue to invest in lifestyle amenities, like bicycling,” said Mayor Brown, noting that downtown Buffalo is the fastest growing residential district. “As Buffalo continues to see the growth in cycling and its positive impact upon our local economy, health and environment, it is important for our city to continue to develop and invest in these quality of life amenities.”

This small investment has large returns.

“City’s across the country are choosing to support bicycling as a mode of choice because it is a vital component in people’s decision as to where they want to live and to building a vibrant local economy,” stated Justin Booth, Executive Director of GObike Buffalo.
Buffalo is well on its way to becoming a Bike Friendly City, recognized by the League of American Cyclists with bronze level status in 2013.  By the end of 2015, Buffalo will have over 80 miles of bike lanes in its network.

The installation of bicycle racks is a part of Buffalo’s National Bike Month celebration, a full listing of events and activities can be found at http://gobikebuffalo.org/bike-month/
