$40 MILLION HOTEL PROJECT MOVES FORWARD

Mark Hamister, Chairman and CEO of The Hamister Group said, “We’re thrilled that the City and others have seen fit to approve this project and allow us to move one step closer to construction on this project and we’re thrilled to be part of the strong momentum that is building in downtown Buffalo.  This major renovation project not only takes office space off the market but adds much needed hotel space to the downtown area especially with the recent announcement of the Webster block project.  We are extremely appreciative of Mayor Brown and his administration for their support throughout the planning stages of this project and look forward to a long and positive partnership.”

Daniel Hamister, Senior Vice President of Business Development said, “The City’s approval of our easement request puts us one step closer to commencing this major redevelopment project.  We’re incredibly grateful to have such a strong partner in Mayor Brown and his Team and that they too can see the enormous economic development impact that this project will have on Downtown Buffalo.  With so many exciting projects now taking place right around the Tishman Building, we believe now is the perfect time to add more hotel and apartment space as well as to bring our Corporate Office back to Buffalo.”
Today’s announcement comes at an exciting time for the City of Buffalo.  Last week, Mayor Brown announced the city’s selection of the Buffalo Sabres’ plan for the development of the Webster Block, while Kaleida Health announced its selection of the plan for a veterinary school to fill the space at Delaware Gates Circle.  Both redevelopment projects are expected to attract new visitors to Buffalo and Western New York.

– Mayor Byron Brown was joined today by Mark Hamister, Chairman and CEO of The Hamister Group and Daniel Hamister, Senior Vice President of Business Development, to announce that a $40 million plan to transform the Tishman Building into a Hilton Garden Inn hotel, apartments and The Hamister Group new Corporate Office is moving forward in downtown Buffalo after an easement agreement, tied to the project, was reached.  As part of the deal, the Hamister Group agreed to pay the City of Buffalo a total of $167,000 for a non-exclusive easement for the use of a portion of the pedestrian/sidewalk right-of-way area at the corner of Main Street and Lafayette Square.

“This is yet another exciting downtown economic development project that will take an historic building in the heart of Buffalo and convert it into a vibrant Hotel, a business hub, and upscale rental units for families that enjoy downtown living,” said Mayor Brown.  “I applaud The Hamister Group for its commitment and dedication to Buffalo and look forward to the start of construction on this major renovation project.  It’s a win-win for everyone involved and another big step in remaking Buffalo’s economy.”

The easement agreement, which was filed with the Buffalo Common Council this week and is expected to be voted on by month’s end, is necessary for the redevelopment of the Tishman Building (former National Fuel Headquarters) to, among other things allow drive-up access and valet service for hotel guests, as well as deliveries and a café patio. The proposed hotel would consist of 123 rooms with a restaurant, fitness center and bar.  The top three floors would consist of roughly 21,000 square feet for the new corporate offices of The Hamister Group.  The project is expected to result in about 400 construction jobs and create another 49 permanent new jobs. Approximately 30 people will be relocated to The Hamister Group’s new corporate office.
