Discount Grocery Retailer to occupy Stuyvesant Plaza Space

Mayor Byron W. Brown today announced that PriceRite Supermarkets, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Wakefern Food Corporation, will put a new store in the former Latina’s location at 238 Elmwood Avenue.

“For years this high profile spot has been vacant, and now, thanks to the City’s hard work, PriceRite is coming in to this location to serve the residents of the neighborhood,” said Mayor Brown.  “It has been the goal of my administration to develop our neighborhood commercial strips and this project brings new life to a strip that has suffered a loss in recent years. PriceRite saw this location as a great opportunity and I am excited to see the company come into the Buffalo market.”

“Price Rite is extremely excited about opening our first supermarket in the City of Buffalo.
We would like to give special thanks to Mayor Byron Brown and Commissioner Brian Reilly for their support through out the process,” said PriceRite President Neil Duffy.  “We assure you Price Rite will prove to be an outstanding Corporate Partner, offering low price and high quality products, well supporting the community through are charitable efforts.”

“Many of the residents in the immediate area have been asking the City to put a grocery store in this location for many years,” said Brian Reilly, Commissioner of Economic Development, Permit and Inspection Services.  “Our business assistance team assisted PriceRite in finding the right location and helping the company through the planning process, we are excited to see this project come to the City and look forward to working with PriceRite on other possible locations.”

PriceRite is headquartered in Wethersfield, CT, and has been in operation since 1995.  The company has stores in New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, and Rhode Island.  This is the company’s first Buffalo location.   The store is expected to be open in early spring 2009.
