The Shelter staff immediately noticed what appeared to be a badly broken leg on Carina. A veterinary examination confirmed that it was an old injury, but repairing her leg was not an option due to the extent of the damage. The Shelter was faced with two decisions: to humanely euthanize her, or to amputate her leg, allowing her to lead a somewhat normal life. Carina and her kittens are in foster care as the Shelter makes an urgent appeal to the public to help fund Carina’s surgery, and to find her a permanent home with a special family once she heals from her amputation. Donations for Carina’s surgery may be made to “Friends of the Buffalo Animal Shelter – Caring for Carina”, 380 N. Oak Street, Buffalo, New York 14203. |
