FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH IS WEAR RED DAY!


February 3, 2009 – The American Heart Association will mark the launch of National Heart Month and its Go Red for Women campaign at a special Wear Red Day press conference with Mayor Byron Brown:

Mayor Brown will deliver a proclamation naming February 5th “Wear Red Day in Buffalo.”  Also joining the mayor will be cardiologist and Go Red for Women chair, Dr. Margaret Paroski; Greatbatch CEO, Tom Hook; and local survivor, Kelly Rummings. 

This year Niagara Falls has further proven its commitment to raising the awareness of heart disease in women by temporarily suspending its special lighting for the Olympics to light red for Wear Red Day.  The Falls will light red at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. EST on February 5th.

The City Hall media event will also announce Greatbatch as the American Heart Association’s Hero of the Heart winner for 2010.  The award will be officially presented at the annual Heart Ball the following night.

Other highlights of Wear Red Day and American Heart Month in Western New York include:

• All 8 Kaleida facilities Going Red the first week of February.

• St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute and Canisius High School setting aside their long-time rivalry and joining in Wearing Red February 12th.

• The Women’s Bar Association hosting a Women and Heart Health Lunch on February 18th 12:00 noon at Shanghai Reds with Dr. Paroski.

• The Body Essentials hosting a Heart Healthy Presentation with American Heart Association president, Dr. Cobler in the evening on February 26th.

• Sabres Going Red – March 5th
