Mayor Brown Announces Request For High Speed Rail In Buffalo

The plan for High Speed Inter City Passenger Rail along the Empire Corridor in New York State will connect Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Utica, Albany, and the North Country


Demonstrating his commitment to strengthening passenger rail service in Buffalo, and to promote and provide the associated educational and business opportunities to residents, Mayor Byron W. Brown has announced his request for New York High Speed Rail in Buffalo. Mayor Brown joined the High Speed Rail New York Coalition, which recently submitted a report on the regional impacts of High Speed Inter City Passenger Rail along the Empire Corridor in New York State to Administrator Joseph C. Szabo.

“I am proud to support and be a part of this coalition because of the benefits it will bring to the City of Buffalo, and all of Western New York,” said Mayor Brown. “Connecting Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Utica, Albany, and the North Country, by High Speed Rail will produce strong, visible, and sustained results transforming our cities, regions, and rural communities.”
The High Speed Rail New York coalition is comprised of local governments, chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, metropolitan planning organizations and tourism bureaus across Upstate New York. The research, which was submitted on July 31, 2009, provides statements organized around Economic Development, Research and Development, Urban Development Opportunities, Environment Benefits, Transportation, and Quality of Life.

Today’s announcement brings about a new hope for advances in transportation in the Empire State. Historically, advances in transportation have made New York a world class center for commerce and industry, and with these new investments, such as the High Speed Rail, Buffalo can benefit from the resulting economic impact of such infrastructure improvements.
