Culter Director of Communications 716-851-4841 Many New Programs To Be Implemented This Year Buffalo, NY – Buffalo opened the academic year with five completely reconstructed buildings and two brand new schools. The five new schools; Waterfront School; School 37 Futures Academy; School 82 Early Childhood Center; School 91 BUILD Academy; and School 94 West Hertel Academy are the first of the buildings completed in Phase II of the District’s $1 billion reconstruction project. In addition, it was the first day of school for 80 sixth graders and 80 ninth graders at the District’s Math Science and Technology Preparatory School at Seneca and students at the Academy School @ 44. “This is a great day for Buffalo Public School children, their parents, our teachers and staff,” Dr. James A. Williams, Superintendent, said. “The first day of school is a new beginning and we are looking forward to continuing our work to improve our children’s academic achievement.” “As the chairman of the Joint Schools Construction Board, I am extremely proud to see the quality of workmanship in our reconstructed buildings,” Mayor Byron Brown, said. “By improving our schools, we can make a positive difference in the quality of life in the City of Buffalo.” The 2006 – 2007 school year promises to be another ambitious one for the district. Buffalo will be moving into Phase III of reconstruction, adding nine new schools to the list; adding Advanced Placement courses in all of their high schools; expanding the extended learning program to all students in grades Pre-K – 2; offering the PAST to all 9th grade students, establishing the Center for High School Reform, implementing a district-wide technology plan, introducing a standards-based report card, launching a new web site and more.
