BUFFALO— Mayor Byron W. Brown invites community-based organizations, block clubs and other interested citizens to participate in National Night Out on August 1st, 2006. National Night Out was introduced in 1984 as a unique crime and drug prevention event. “National Night Out is a very worthy annual event that reinforces our residents’ desire to live in crime-free neighborhoods that support and nurture a good quality of life,” said Mayor Brown. “I have always been an enthusiastic supporter of National Night Out and I urge all of our residents to get involved this year.” For National Night Out, communities traditionally have displayed outdoor lights all night and held front porch vigils. Other popular activities include cookouts, police and fire department community visits, parades, contests, youth programs and block parties. Any block club interested in obtaining a street-closing permit for neighborhood activities should contact Mary Lewandowski in the Traffic Bureau at 851-5366 or Room 512 City Hall on or before Monday, July 24th. We cannot guarantee your permit will be approved if you apply following the deadline. The permit fee for this activity has been waived, so all are encouraged to participate.
