Fire Fighter Herbert was injured while responding to a fire on December 29,1995 at 37 Interpark Avenue. As a result of his injuries, Fire Fighter Herbert lay in a coma for ten years until emerging in 2005 and was able to communicate with family and friends. He passed away from complications from his on-duty injuries. "Donald Herbert was the epitome of the brave men and women of Buffalo's Fire Department," stated Mayor Brown. "His dedication to duty and service to our citizens will be remembered always. He inspired all of us and we will all be diminished by his passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and fellow fire fighters." |
