Emphasizes local hospitality industry's importance to city's economy and future

BUFFALO— At a luncheon sponsored by the Western New York Hotel/Motel association, Mayor Byron Brown discussed his goals for the City of Buffalo and his first 100 days in office.

"Our goal is to make Buffalo more attractive and hospitable for business – for those that are already doing business in the city and for anyone else considering investing in future development opportunities in the city – and they will be there," said Mayor Brown.  "My administration is following three key areas – economic development, guaranteeing a good quality of life for city residents and ensuring accountability and efficiency throughout city government.  These are the core principles of my Administration"

Mayor Brown told the organization's members that in his first 100 days in office, he has introduced a Zero Tolerance Law Enforcement Action Plan; initiated a comprehensive review of the Buffalo Municipal Housing Authority; lobbied for and received a 22% increase in state aid to Buffalo from Albany; and worked on many economic development initiatives, including the proposed hotel in the Elmwood Village area of the city.

"I supported the Wyndam Hotel on Elmwood Avenue because it makes sense for the location, and the developer did an excellent job in meeting with the public and addressing their concerns," said Mayor Brown.  "I believe it will serve as an excellent gateway attraction to one of our city's greatest commercial/residential strips."

The Western New York Hotel/Motel Association represents a key economic development sector in the City of Buffalo.  Statistics show that over 2 million hotel rooms are utilized by over 3.5 million visitors annually in Buffalo and Western New York.
