Effort Linked to Zero Tolerance Law Enforcement Initiative BUFFALO—Mayor Byron W. Brown and Police Commissioner H. McCarthy Gipson today announced a new Police Department tip-line that will enable citizens to confidentially submit information on all illicit narcotics activities occurring throughout the city, as well as supplying information on homicides. "My Administration's new Zero Tolerance Law Enforcement initiative targets a variety of crimes affecting our citizens' quality of life, particularly street-level drug trafficking, and this new Narcotics/Homicide Tip-Line will enable residents from across the city to report criminal activity that endangers their lives and harms our neighborhoods," said Mayor Brown. The tip-line will be staffed by Police Department personnel and will include a voicemail system in off-hours. All calls will be reviewed by designated Police Department staff and responded to within 24 hours. All information will be catalogued and stored in database utilized by the Narcotics and Homicide Units. "Our Department's Zero Tolerance activities, as detailed in the Mayor's plan, are geared toward reducing crime, stabilizing neighborhoods and working with community-based organizations, block clubs and others to improve the quality of life for all," stated Commissioner Gipson. "This tip-line is another tool to help us accomplish those goals." Mayor Brown and Commissioner Gipson announced the new Narcotics/Homicide Tip-Line in front of 39 Laurel Street, a residence targeted in the recent, three-day "Operation Shock and Awe," a Buffalo Police Department-led effort that brought about 78 arrests in drug trafficking activity across the city. "As I stated when my Zero Tolerance Law Enforcement plan was introduced, we are determined to interrupt and ultimately eradicate crimes such as illicit drug trafficking that have plagued our community long enough," said Mayor Brown. "My message to those engage in crime is simple – we will find you, we will arrest you and you will go to jail." NOTE: The Narcotics/Homicide Tip-Line will begin on Monday, April 24th at |
