Mayor Brown Honors the ASPCA on its 140th Anniversary

BUFFALO—The City of Buffalo will be joining the cities of New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, Philadelphia, and countless other communities in celebrating the 140th anniversary of the founding of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).  Mayor Byron Brown today officially declared April 10, 2006 ASPCA Day in the City of Buffalo

"We are lighting Niagara Square with orange lights to commemorate the anniversary," said Mayor Brown.  "In honor of the ASPCA's mission to prevent the cruelty to animals, and as orange is the society's color of life saving gear, and of saving the lives of countless animals, we are showing our support with the lights.  I am encouraging everyone to show their support for this important organization."

Mayor Brown also acknowledged and thanked the workers and volunteers of the Buffalo Animal Shelter for their efforts in this event.  The ASPCA was founded by Henry Bergh on April 10, 1866.  The month of April is also Prevention of Animal Cruelty Month.
