Section 3 Program

The Section 3 Program provides employment opportunities in the construction field with contractors working on housing authority properties. Participants will be expected to participate in a Job Readiness Workshop and pass a pre-employment drug test prior to being referred to contractors for employment.

Applicants must be 18 years or older, reside in Erie County and meet the income limit guidelines.

Family Self-Sufficiency Program

The FSS Program is a voluntary program designed to assist families in utilizing community resources such as education, job training and supportive services in order to move toward self sufficiency and economic independence. The FSS Program offers a financial incentive to all participating families through an escrow savings account established for you. When participants successfully complete the program, the escrow funds accumulated will be disbursed to FSS participants.

Computer Literacy

The ATTAIN Lab located in the Martha Mitchell Community Center offers residents computer training in Microsoft Computer Literacy and Microsoft Office Specialist Certification.  Free transportation is available to all participating residents.

Schedule: Monday-Thursday from 9am-12pm

Frederick Douglass Community Center offers an eight week "Introduction to Computers" in Microsoft Office 2007.  Free transportation is available to all participating residents.

GED

The ATTAIN Lab also offers GED classes with Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) providing individualized instruction. Classes are scheduled Monday-Thursday from 12pm-3pm.

After School Tutoring Program

The BMHA will be offering after school tutoring for children of elementary and secondary school age.  Tutoring by Literacy Volunteers will be offered Monday through Friday from 3pm-7pm at the following locations:

Northwest Buffalo Community Center - 155 Lawn Avenue, Room 108

Frederick Douglass Community Center - 234 Jefferson Avenue

Martha Mitchell Community Center - 175 Oakmont

Service Coordinator Program

This program works to promote the development of local strategies to coordinate the use of assistance under the program with public and private resources, for supportive services and empowerment activities.  The goal or the Service Coordinator Program are to increase earned income, reduce or eliminate the need for welfare assistance and to make progress towards achieving economic independence and self-sufficiency.
